Governor and Chief Minister Pay Tribute at Chaityabhoomi on the Occasion of the 134th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar
Mumbai, 14th April: On the occasion of the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan called upon everyone to strive towards realizing Dr. Ambedkar’s dream of social transformation and a society based on social and economic equality. He was speaking at an event held at Chaityabhoomi. Present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Chairman of the Legislative Council Ram Shinde, Minister of Social Justice Sanjay Shirsat, Minister of Cultural Affairs Ashish Shelar, Minister of Soil and Water Conservation Sanjay Rathod, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai Bhushan Gagrani, and other distinguished guests.
Governor Radhakrishnan said, Dr. Babasaheb is revered as the architect of India’s Constitution, a great social reformer, and a patriot. He praised Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions towards democracy, social equality, and gender equality.
The Governor also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when taking the oath of office, had considered the Constitution as his guiding force. He expressed his belief that the Dr. Ambedkar Memorial being built at Indu Mill would become an inspiration for future generations.
The Foundation of India’s Unity and Constitutional Values Was Built by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contribution through India’s Constitution has been crucial in maintaining the unity and integrity of the nation. The united India we experience today is built upon the foundation of Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution. The nation is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of the Constitution’s 75th anniversary. Dr. Ambedkar challenged social inequality and undertook the historic task of embedding the values of equality and fraternity in the country. Through the Constitution, he gave every citizen the equal right to live, equal opportunities, and the confidence to achieve their dreams, said Chief Minister Fadnavis.
He added that modern India was shaped by Dr. Ambedkar’s work, and that honoring his birth anniversary by upholding constitutional values is the truest tribute to him.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the Constitution of India is the highest for him. The role of the Constitution in India’s development and progress is vital. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contributions in education, social justice, industrial development, and human rights are invaluable. His role in shaping the modern Indian structure, such as through the irrigation schemes, national power grid, protection of workers' rights, and other significant policies, provided the country with long-term direction.
In tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s work and ideas, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized that embracing equality, fraternity, and justice while remaining true to constitutional values is the best way to honor him.
A photographic exhibition showcasing significant events from Dr. Babasaheb’s life was also organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Public Relations Department.
At the event, the Governor distributed clothing to all monks. Gifts were also presented to blind students by the dignitaries.
Bhante Dr. Rahul Bodhi Mahathero, Secretary of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan Day Coordination Committee Nagasen Kamble, and representatives of the Dadar Chaityabhoomi Memorial Committee were present at the event. The gathering recited the Trisharan Buddha Vandana, and floral tributes were paid to Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar by the dignitaries. A helicopter showered flowers on the Chaityabhoomi during the event.
